    Every canvas is made to order, on the same materials whichever scene you choose.

    • Hand stretched and hand stapledEvery canvas is hand stretched over kiln-dried wood bars and hand stapled at the back, which is what keeps it taut and square for years instead of sagging.
    • Framed or framelessGallery wrapped with the image mirrored around the edge and no exposed staples, or set in a poplar wood floating frame 1.75 in deep, in Noir, Craie, Blond or Cacao. All 4 finishes are the same price.
    • Ready to hangHanging hardware is fitted before it ships. Nothing to buy and nothing to assemble.
    Sizes and dimensions
    • The size you choose is the size of the image. A framed piece sits inside a 1.75 in frame, so it stands a little further off the wall and its outer dimensions are marginally larger.
    • Dimensions are quoted in inches. A size written as 2 dimensions, such as 16 x 12 or 12 x 16, is made in both orientations and you tell us which you would like.
    Your proof, and approving it
    • You receive a digital proof of your dog in the scene you chose. You have 72 hours to approve it or ask for changes, and printing begins once it is approved. If we have not heard from you by then, we take that as your approval.
    • Revisions are unlimited and free. Ask for as many changes as it takes.
    • You have 72 hours after receiving your proof to approve it or ask for a change, and we send a reminder before that runs out. If we have not heard from you by then we take the silence as your approval and begin printing, so your canvas is not left waiting indefinitely.
    Refunds and replacements
    • Every canvas is made to order for your dog, so we cannot refund a change of mind. Until you approve your proof, you can ask for as many changes as you like.
    • Once it is printed we cannot take it back, because it was made for 1 dog and nobody else can use it.
    • If it arrives damaged, misprinted, the wrong size or in the wrong frame, send us a photo within 72 hours of delivery and we make you a new one, free.
    • Anything else that is not right when it arrives, tell us and we will put it right.
    Shipping and delivery
    • Shipping is free to the contiguous United States, and it is already in the price.
    • Your Sur-Mesure starts with 2 complete directions to choose between. Once you have picked one, your proof follows, and the whole first stage takes 2 to 3 working days.
    • Once you approve, printing and finishing take 5 to 8 working days, then delivery takes 1 to 3 days. Approving quickly gets it to you sooner.
    • Sending canvases to more than 1 person? Each order carries 1 shipping address, so place a separate order for each recipient. Buying them in 1 order would send every canvas to the same door.
    • Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and outside the contiguous United States is arranged case by case. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm the cost and the timing for your address.
    Hanging and care
    • Start with the center of the artwork around 57 inches from the floor, which is where a gallery hangs it.
    • Above a sofa or a console, leave roughly 6 to 8 inches of breathing room between the furniture and the frame.
    • Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from steam. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth, and use no water and no cleaning product on the canvas surface.

    Most of the best photos we receive have a person in them. We only use your dog. Everything else in the frame is left behind, so please do not skip a photo you love just because you are holding them in it.

    The dogs shown are examples. Your canvas is composed with your own dog, using the photos you share with us.

    Will I see my artwork before it is printed?

    Yes. On Le Sur-Mesure you first receive 2 complete directions to choose between, then a proof of the one you pick. Request unlimited revisions before printing. You have 72 hours after receiving your proof to approve it or ask for changes. If we have not heard from you by then, we take that as your approval so your canvas is not left waiting.

    How many dogs can I include?

    Up to 2 on Le Sur-Mesure. It is the only piece where 2 dogs share a room, because the scene is composed around them from the start. Every other L’Atelier canvas is designed for 1 dog.

    Is it a painting?

    No. It is a painting-style portrait printed on canvas, not a painting made with a brush. Each scene is built with AI tools and reviewed by a person, your dog is placed into it from your photos, and you approve a proof before it is printed on canvas in the USA. If you want brushstrokes made by hand, an independent portrait artist is the right choice. What you are actually buying.

    What kind of photo should I upload?

    A clear JPG, PNG or HEIC taken in natural light, at your dog’s eye level, is ideal. Make sure their face and markings are visible. Please share at least 2 photos, and up to 5. If there are 2 dogs, send photos of each of them.

    What if I change my mind?

    Each canvas is made for your dog alone, so we cannot refund a change of mind. Until you approve your proof, you can ask for as many changes as you like. If your canvas arrives damaged or misprinted, tell us within 72 hours of delivery and we make you a new one, free.

    Does it arrive ready to hang?

    Yes. Each canvas arrives with hanging hardware fitted. Choose a framed finish or a clean, frameless canvas.

    Can I give it as a gift?

    Absolutely. Choose a scene that feels like their dog, share the photos and approve the artwork. A personal piece for the home makes a thoughtful gift.

    Can I send canvases to different people in 1 order?

    Each order carries 1 shipping address, so a single order sends every canvas in it to the same door. If you are giving canvases to 2 or more people, place a separate order for each of them with that person's address. The artwork for each dog is made separately either way, so nothing is lost by splitting the order.

    How long does the whole thing take?

    The 2 directions come back within 2 to 3 working days. Once you choose 1 and approve the proof, printing and finishing take 5 to 8 working days and delivery another 1 to 3 days. Most canvases arrive 10 to 18 days after the order, depending on the day you order and how quickly you approve. The estimate on the product page is worked out for today.

    Can I choose framed or frameless at every size?

    Yes. Every size, panoramic included, is made both framed and frameless, in any of the 4 frame finishes.

    What happens at the edge of a frameless canvas?

    The artwork continues around the fold, mirrored, so the side of the canvas carries the scene rather than a blank border. Panoramic canvases are 1.25 inches deep and every other format is 0.75 inches.

    What are the 4 frame finishes?

    Noir, a matte black. Craie, a soft chalk white. Blond, a pale natural wood. Cacao, a deep warm brown. Each is a slim floating frame with a shadow gap between the frame and the canvas.

    What if it arrives damaged?

    Email us a photo within 72 hours of delivery and we will make you a new one, free. This covers transit damage, print defects, the wrong size and the wrong frame.

    Can I order more than 1 size of the same scene?

    Yes. Each size is its own piece, so add them to your cart separately. The same approved artwork is used for all of them.

    Where do you ship?

    Shipping is free to the contiguous United States. We cannot yet ship canvases to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories or outside the United States through the website. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm the cost and the timing for your address.

    How should I look after it?

    Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from steam. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use water or any cleaning product on the canvas surface.
