ST. PADDY’S DAY CELEBRATIONS FOR YOUR PUP!
Don’t let your pet turn green with envy this year as St. Patrick’s Day rolls around. Create intentional events and celebrations that both you and your pet can enjoy this holiday to create memories and stories that will last a lifetime. Here at Bonne et Filou, we’re all about the experience, and to enhance yours, we’ve brought you a bit of holiday education and a list of all of the festivities that you can create or attend.
THE HISTORY BEHIND ST. PATRICK’S DAY
St. Patrick’s Day, also referred to as St. Paddy’s Day, is named after Welsh-born St. Patrick (no welsh-corgi here), who was one of the most prominent patron saints of Ireland. This holiday is both a cultural and religious celebration for many. However, many often regard this day as a general celebration of the Irish culture. Countries all across the world partake in this fun, green festival. Interestingly enough, dogs have had a highly noted place in the history and culture of the Irish! For this reason, we’ve compiled a list of a few celebrations and events that are dog-friendly and include festivities specifically for your pooch.
DRESS YOUR LUCKY PUP
If you don’t know, the rule is that on St. Patrick’s Day, everyone (including your dog) turns Irish! There are so many ways to celebrate Irish pride by dressing your pup up, and Biff, @biffthesamoyed, can teach your pets a lesson or two about how to get festive for the holidays! If you’re looking for sassy green gear to order for your pet, look no further than @cadoandme! You’ll find bows and bandanas amongst their playful St. PAWty’s Day collection. Our favorite item from their collection is the “Pinch me and Die” add-on!
FIND A ST. PADDY’S DAY PARADE
No matter where you are in the world, there is a pet-friendly St. Paddy’s day parade to be found. We’ve located eight of the most famous parades that your pup can enjoy too!
- New York: We all know that New York is infamous for hosting grand parades for residents and visitors from all over, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception. Come one, come all to this spectacular event right in the heart of New York!
- San Francisco: Expect to have the green carpet rolled out for celebratory pups and pets of all kinds at the San Francisco St.Patrick’s Parade! There are over 100 floats and Irish dance troupes that will liven up this holiday for you and your four-legged friend. Unfortunately, this year the parade won’t be out on the streets for all to see. However, there will be a virtual event held for those that are still interested in seeing all of the fun.
- Savannah: Normally we’d say: Come one, come all to Savannah, Georgia, to honor St. Patrick and the charming city that this parade lies within. However, for the past two years due to COVID-19, this parade has been postponed. If you’re in town, however, you can still be sure to grab some green gear and treats at one of their local pet shops to celebrate.
